State of the Art
The Swiss psychiaty training
In Switzerland, there are two different training programmes and spacialist titles for adult psychiatry and psychotherapy (GAP) and child and adolescent psychotherapy (CAP). CAP trainees must do one year of GAP training in their training programme, while GAP trainees may voluntarily do one year of CAP.
Both specialist qualifications are valid for the title of clinician (psychiatrist) and psychotherapist. Therefore specific and structured psychotherapy training is required to complete the training programme.
The Swiss System
Switzerland has always had an important scientific and cultural value in psychiatry. For these reasons, the network of mental health facilities and the training system are remarkable despite the size of its population.
